Jan. 7, 2024 Update
Testing and tuning activities continue at Standing Bear Lake Station. This week, we have begun tuning the exhaust system, an effort that will likely take several weeks to complete.
The exhaust tuning, also called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) tuning, uses a catalyst and a reducing agent (UREA or Diesel Exhaust Fluid [DEF]) to greatly reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions resulting in cleaner exhaust.
During this testing, however, the exhaust may look yellow, brown or green as each engine is tuned. Once the proper tuning is achieved, you shouldn’t see any smoke of these colors.
