FAQs
Why is this project needed now?
This project is needed to provide additional reliability to the transmission grid. It is also required to allow the full output of the new Turtle Creek Station Balancing Plant. In addition to the rebuild of the 161kV, OPPD made a decision to rebuild the line as a double circuit 345kV over 161kV. Including the 345kV as part of this rebuild allows us to use existing Right of Way to accommodate part of the new Cass to Sarpy Transmission Project. Reusing this Right of Way will reduce the impacts to the landowners around the 180th and Giles Substation where this line will connect.
Does OPPD have the right to trim or remove a property owner’s tree?
Yes. OPPD owns a right-of-way easement along the transmission line allowing OPPD to trim and/or remove all trees and brush on or near the right-of-way as needed to safely and efficiency survey, construct, reconstruct, relocate, inspect, repair, replace, maintain, operate and remove transmission lines. This is a utility standard. The easement also permits OPPD to trim or remove trees that could potentially fall within 15 feet of the nearest power line.
Will this project impact my bill?
No, this project is part of OPPD’s planned budget for 2023/2024 and will not result in an increase to customer bills.
