More Than I Could Have Asked For...
Once I was stable (several hours later), I was transferred to another room and was introduced to my post-partum nurse, Sonya. When she asked me if she could get me anything, I asked her to please check on my son who was in the NICU.
Within minutes, she brought him to me. It was early in the morning and I was exhausted, but to hold my baby really for the first time was priceless. I talked to him and held for over an hour.
I wrote a letter of gratitude and appreciation to the President of Methodist Hospital for Sonya's caring attitude and attention to helping me heal. Not to steal their tag line, but that compassionate act by a nurse was the "Best Care" I could have received at the very time I needed it.
This son is 26 years old now and I have shared this story several times. It serves a reminder to me and to others.
CARE is more than words. It is an intentional action built on compassion and selfless giving. Sonya taught me that and I have never forgotten it.
Thank you for your contribution!
